CAMBODIA

The Cambodian government is launching a scheme in partnership with textile and garment factory owners to provide financial support to workers who have been laid off because of the Economic downturn. (Khmer Times)

LAO PDR

The government will add new portfolios for Lao diplomats and Lao missions overseas, requiring them to play a greater role in sourcing Foreign Direct Investment and expanding trade and economic cooperation with the international community, according to a senior cabinet member. (Vientiane Times)

MYANMAR

The European Union on Tuesday imposed sanctions ahead of International Women’s Day against officials from six countries, including Myanmar, for violence and rights abuses against women. (Mizzima)

Under military rule, Myanmar’s economy looks set to remain moribund this year, with forecasters predicting the country will see the region’s lowest growth and highest inflation rate. Myanmar’s GDP is expected to grow 2.6 percent this year—the lowest among ASEAN countries—while its inflation rate will be higher than any other member of the regional bloc at 8.5 percent, according to a forecast by the Asian Development Bank.
