The UN World Food Programme and the Cambodian Agriculture Cooperative Corporation are launching a new project targeting over 1,200 smallholder farmers and their extended families in Koh Nhek district in the country’s northeastern province of Mondulkiri. (Phnom Penh Post)

Cambodia is committed to joining other ASEAN member countries to provide close support and cooperation for Indonesia, as this year’s rotating Chair of ASEAN, in order to push for fruitfully and satisfactorily achievements of Priority Economic Deliverables and other priorities under the ASEAN Economic Community pillar. Capfish-Capture, a project organized by the UNIDO, is giving technical and financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises in Cambodia’s fishing industry to promote compliance with international food safety standards, allow SMEs to upgrade their machinery, connect SMEs with microfinance and venture capital, and increase academic research into post-harvest food technology. LAO PDR

Laos registered a trade deficit of US$17 million in April, according to official statistics. Imports and exports during the fourth month of the year totalled US$ 947 million. Exports hit US$465 million, while imports touched approximately US$482 million, according to figures from the Lao Trade Portal of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. (Vientiane Times)

A senior Lao leader has called on Asean nations and regional stakeholders to further strengthen cooperation to alleviate poverty and ensure food security in the region. Speaking at the 29th Asean Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia, on Monday, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Suanesavanh Vignaket, said addressing gaps and finding solutions to eradicate poverty and hunger among the poor is not an easy task for a single organisation or sectoral body.
