CAMBODIA

Cambodia received some 3.5 million foreign visitors in the first eight months of 2023, a year-on-year increase by 250.8 percent, but a decrease by 19.7 percent compared to the same period in 2019, according to a report of the Ministry of Tourism. (Khmer Times)

LAO PDR

The Prime Minister has instructed the relevant agencies to expedite the drafting of a strategy on rare earth metals and other minerals, to ensure proper management of mining operations in Laos. (Vientiane Times)

MYANMAR

Power outages in Myanmar’s commercial capital Yangon, including in its once thriving industrial zones, are worsening, with residents and business owners saying the length of blackouts has at least doubled since mid-August. (The Irrawaddy)

VIET NAM

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed delaying a salary negotiation meeting until the fourth quarter of 2023 because there is not enough scientific and practical basis to propose a time to adjust the regional minimum wage. (Viet Nam News)

During the January – September period, Vietnam exported some 260 billion USD worth of products, a year-on-year fall of 8.2%. Meanwhile, the country’s imports totaled 238 billion USD, down 13.8% year on year. (Vietnam Plus)
