CAMBODIA

The ADB has approved a $40 million policy-based loan to support the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen the provision of public services by local administrations through a series of reforms in the public finance sector and decentralisation. This is according to the press release received by local news on July 26, 2023. (Khmer Times)

LAO PDR

The government has agreed in principle to provide a supporting allowance for low-wage civil servants and to increase the minimum wage for private sector employees to help them deal with rampant inflation. The cabinet’s monthly meeting, which took place on July 24-25, instructed the officials concerned to identify the actual number of people who will benefit from a wage increase and make a detailed analysis of the government’s capacity to make these extra payments. Laos will start using QR code transactions with neighbouring countries to facilitate money transfers and payments by workers and tourists in these countries, the Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR has said. (Vientiane Times)

VIET NAM

Vietnam E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency (VEDA) is developing an e-commerce platform that would act as a national hub connecting all local platforms across the country. A VEDA representative said the platform, named Sàn Việt, would help narrow the e-commerce development gap between provinces and act as a national marketplace for local products, especially OCOPs (products in the One Commune One Product Programme).
